The API 2500 is primarily a stereo bus or summing compressor that can be operated in both stereo and dual mono mode. Thanks to two different modes of operation, the 2500 is extremely flexible. The "Old" style offers the "Feedback Type" circuit found in many classic compressors, while "New" offers the compression characteristics of many modern VCA compressors. The patented "Thrust" circuit gives the bass plenty of punch and can be attenuated with a 2dB/octave high-pass filter or completely removed from the signal path with the bypass switch.
