The d:facto vocal microphone (4018V) is linear but with presence boost. The 4018V is often chosen because it cuts through in the recording studio, where the content is usually sent to in-built TV speakers with limited audio quality.

This polar pattern offers the best of both worlds - cardioid and supercardioid.
