Product information "DPA 5100"

The 5100 Mobile Surround Microphone is a fully self-contained plug-and-play solution for 5.1 audio recordings. It provides an appealing surround ambience for sports events, documentaries and other HDTV productions. The microphone is versatile and can be mounted in various ways: with a microphone stand, suspended from the ceiling or via a handle. It is lightweight and portable. In addition, its robust nature means it can withstand harsh weather conditions.

The 5100 Mobile Surround Microphone utilises five miniature pressure transducers. These transducers are insensitive to wind and mechanical noise and offer low distortion and good low frequency imaging. They also have a wide dynamic range.

The three front microphones in this system are synchronised and thus eliminate comb filtering. This ensures frequency consistency when mixing down to stereo or mono. In contrast, the standard omnidirectional rear microphones are optimally positioned in relation to each other and to the front array to simulate the most natural time differences. The end result of DPA's innovative design approach is a surround ambience characterised by a full and smooth all-round sound that offers excellent coherence, channel separation and localisation accuracy. The 5100 Mobile Surround Microphone requires no external signal processing.

This solution is particularly suitable for surround sound recording in film, live recording, broadcast and studio applications. Full surround sound is an excellent way to record a symphony. Most orchestras are a self-balancing phenomenon - every instrumental part can be heard without additional miking. Acoustic reflections and a sense of acoustic space are also an important aspect of an orchestra's sound - as are the instruments themselves.

The 5100 is also easy to set up for sports applications. It is a practical, 5.1 surround sound solution, positioned centrally to cover the main camera shot and covered by the usual support microphones for additional effects.

The 5.1 output of the microphone runs through a multipin Lemo connector. All six electronically balanced channels are connected to this connector.
