Product information "Schoeps MK 4g capsule kidney"

The MK 4 and CCM 4 have been optimised with regard to their insensitivity to sound coming from the rear. As is characteristic of the classic cardioid, the attenuation is 6dB at lateral incidence below 90° and up to 30dB at incidence from the rear - depending on the frequency and distance. Diffuse sound is reproduced 4.8dB weaker than frontal sound, a value that corresponds to the directivity*. The greater this is, the less "space" a microphone transmits and the less susceptible it is to acoustic feedback.

Thanks to its directivity, the MK 4 or the CCM 4 can be positioned around 1.7 times further away from the sound source than a pressure transducer of the same sensitivity with the same reverberation balance. Even in a diffuse sound field, i.e. at a great distance from the sound source in the room, this type of microphone has a constant frequency response - apart from a slight rise at 10kHz.
