Product information "Tascam Portacapture X8"
Immediately after starting, the Portacapture X8's large colour touchscreen displays the launcher, which allows you to easily select the best audio settings for your application. Thanks to these presets, you have more time to concentrate on the actual recording without having to deal with complicated settings.
However, if you prefer to set everything yourself, the MANUAL app gives you all the options - including a recording guide that will walk you through the necessary settings screens if you wish.
The Portacapture X8 offers a preset level setting, with which it achieves a wide dynamic range. It utilises high-quality dual A/D converters and 32-bit floating point resolution recording technology. The result is the highest sound quality, even when recording at low levels. When processing the audio data later, you can increase the level without the signal-to-noise ratio (S/R) deteriorating. In addition, the internal normalisation function can automatically adjust the level of the stereo mix after recording.
By combining these functions, you no longer have to spend valuable creative time finding the right audio level for recording.
Thanks to its driverless plug-and-go functionality, the Portacapture X8 can be used as a compact mixer with built-in microphones for live streaming via OBS or similar platforms and also enables direct recording of video commentary and dialogue into DAW and editing software.
The Portacapture X8 streams up to eight tracks (six inputs plus stereo mix) via USB. By supporting the power delivery standard via USB Type-C, the device can simultaneously supply phantom power to any external microphone via the USB bus. For video or audio conferencing, you can use the Portacapture X8 as a USB stereo microphone and record the sound at the same time.
The Portacapture X8 comes with two high-quality condenser microphones, each with a diameter of 14.6 mm - the largest microphones in our product range. As they are detachable, both microphones can be attached to the device in both AB and XY configurations.
AB arrangement: Ideal for achieving a wide stereo field
XY arrangement: Offers particularly clear reproduction with reduced phase shift between the two channels
In combination with the dual A/D converter, 32-bit floating point processing and sampling rates of up to 192 kHz, these microphones capture everything - from the quietest rustle to the loudest spectacle.
