Product information "Wharfedale Delta X15 passive"

Bi-amp and passive modes:

In BI-AMP mode, two power amplifiers can be used. This gives you the advantage of being able to select the best power amplifier specifications for each driver in the speaker. In a BI-AMP configuration, the frequencies are separated by an external crossover, splitting the signal between the dedicated LF amplifier and the HF amplifier. In this way, each amplifier operates only in the specified frequency range and in turn supplies power to the corresponding driver in the speaker.

In PASSIVE mode, a single amplifier can be used to supply all drivers in the speaker. The entire frequency range is fed into the speaker and the speaker's internal crossover separates the frequencies and delivers the correct frequencies to the correct driver. In the example of a passive 2-way loudspeaker, this means that the single amplifier supplies power to both the HF compression driver and the LF transducer. The internal crossover takes care of both frequency and power separation.
