Two additional controls with fine resolution allow further targeted correction of highs and lows. The level is adjusted using a precise gain control and not the usual simple volume control. The crossover has also been redesigned for a better step response and a better phase curve with reliable power limitation. The magnetostatic tweeter has also been redesigned: in addition to the extremely low inertia of the diaphragm used, a new internal damping system in particular ensures improved linearity. It offers a high cut-off frequency with excellent transients and fine dynamics. The matching woofer with its Kevlar composite cone ensures controlled, piston-shaped vibration behaviour thanks to its rigidity, which guarantees a well-defined and powerful bass with plenty of depth. Another new feature is the integrated rubberised and individually height-adjustable feet: not only do they help to significantly reduce unwanted vibrations, they also make it possible to tilt the monitor speaker in all directions. This means you can always set the optimum dispersion direction, which is so important in the near-field range. Another special feature is the standby function, which can be switched off. uniK 05+ also has a ground lift switch. The Genelec 7050C subwoofer is the perfect match for the 8010, 8020 and 8030 monitors, offering analogue inputs and outputs up to 5.1 surround and handling bass management. The integrated crossover ensures that only frequencies above 85 Hz are passed on to the connected speakers. This reduces the load on the speakers in the bass range and allows them to deliver a higher resolution. The overall system also achieves a higher sound level. There is also an LFE input up to 120 Hz for surround sound.The patented LSE design (laminar spiral enclosure) ensures powerful low bass without flow noise. Kali Audio presents the IN-5 3-way 5″ nearfield monitor as a precise monitoring system for smaller rooms. The further development of the successful LP series has a sophisticated bass reflex system with a level-resistant woofer. Instead of the usual tweeter with 3D imaging waveguides, however, a coaxial midrange/tweeter combination has been installed here. The profile-optimised 4″ midrange driver also functions as a waveguide. By limiting the peak excursion to 1 mm, intermodulation distortion, which otherwise occurs in coaxial systems, could be avoided. The midrange driver also relieves the woofer and tweeter, so the IN-5 plays more harmoniously and with less distortion than conventional 2-way studio monitors.The crossover frequency of the woofer is 280 Hz, turning the IN-5 into an acoustic point source. Phase cancellations on the vertical axis will be sought in vain here. Instead, the IN-5 has an even dispersion behaviour over the entire frequency response with excellent depth graduation and localisation. The stereo image also benefits from the coaxial arrangement and enables a detailed mix. The Epic 5 is characterised by its high-quality workmanship, which is the sum of many components developed in-house, such as the housing, amplifier, chassis, crossover and passive cone.
